Dale Wiederhoeft, 77
Winnebago – Dale Wiederhoeft, age 77, of Winnebago passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023 after battling Lewy Body Dementia. Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 27 from 4-7 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Winnebago. The Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Burial with military and law enforcement honors will be at the Vernon Center Cemetery.
Dale was born Sept. 2, 1946 to Kermit and Dolores (Ziemke) in Mankato. He attended grade school at Pleasant Mound and graduated from the Southern School of Agriculture in Waseca. He joined the US Navy in 1966, and proudly served his country for four years, during Vietnam as an aircraft mechanic. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and met the love of his life, Vickie Lee Bailey. They were married on Sept. 21, 1974 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Vernon Center. Together they raised their son, Adam.
He worked for AMS & Crane Plumbing before following his heart to a career in law enforcement. He worked with the Mankato Reserves before being sworn in as an officer with the City of Winnebago. In 1995, he achieved the rank of Chief of Police which he held until his retirement. He protected and served the Winnebago community from 1976-2006.
Dale was a lifetime member of the Police and Peace Officers Association, American Legion Post #82 in Winnebago and a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior. He enjoyed taking snowmobile trips and volunteering at the Winnebago Museum. He was a fair, kind and thoughtful man, had a big heart, greeted everyone with a smile and loved to chat. He never forgot their wedding anniversary or Vickie’s birthday and often surprised her with flowers.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Vickie, of 49 years; son, Adam (Kathryn), of Rosemount; two grandchildren, Oliver and Emery; sisters, Nancy (Duane) Letcher, of Truman, Connie Krusemark, of Battle Lake; brother, Steven, of Amboy; sisters-in-law, Karen (Dale) Lachmiller, of Garden City, Laurie (Buck) Halverson, of Blue Earth; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Richard and Bernice Bailey; and brother-in-law, Craig Krusemark.
