Helen Kayser, 97

Blue Earth – Helen Kayser, age 97, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 St Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2023 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, 715 E. North St., in Algona, Iowa with Father Matt Solyntjes officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2023 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in the Presentation Center and also one hour before Mass at church on Saturday. Helen was born Nov. 12, 1926 in Kossuth County, Iowa the daughter of Anton and Mary (Borman) Becker. She is the sister of Bernadine (Ralph) Kramer, Willie (Kathleen) Becker, and Wilfred (Marge) Becker, long-time residents of Algona. Helen attended and graduated from St. Joseph, Iowa High School. She was united in marriage to Albin Fred Kayser Jan. 14, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph, Iowa.

The couple farmed in Kossuth County in the St. Joseph and Lakota areas. The couple moved to Bancroft, Iowa and raised their 12 children: Donna (John) Vogel of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Edward (Peggy) Kayser, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Mary Lynch of Mason City, Iowa, Harold (Mary) Kayser, of Easton, Michael (Pat) Kayser, of Bradenton, Florida, Carla (Jim) Brookman, of LaPorte, Colorado, Thomas (Kim) Kayser, of Cape Coral, Florida, Cynthia (Rafe) Ropek, of Berthod, Colorado, Al (Karen) Kayser, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, John (Peggy) Kayser, of Yucaipa, California, Sharon (Dayo) Popoola, of Chicago, Illinois, and Jim Kayser, of Seattle, Washington.

Helen and Alb later moved to LaCrosse, Wisconsin; finally settling in Wells. Helen was an active officer in St. Joseph and St. John CDofA. She is remembered for her love of music and was the organist at St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years. Helen’s love of music helped her organize the Kitchen Klatter Band in Bancroft. She also worked at the drug store in Bancroft and was an assistant in a dental office in LaCrosse. She loved volunteer work at a nursing home, election monitoring, golfing, playing cards, and dominoes. Cooking for family and friends was her favorite past time.

She is survived by her 11 children, 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Alb Kayser; parents, Tony and Mary Becker; sister, Bernadine (Ralph) Kramer; brothers: Willie (Kathleen) Becker and Wilfred (Marge) Becker; daughter, Donna Vogel; daughter-in-law, Nellie Kayser; grandchildren: Kimberly Kayser, Jake Kayser; and great-grandson, Nicholas Brunskill.
