Sylvia Christian

Blue Earth – Sylvia Lorraine Christian, age 86, of Owatonna, MN, fomerly of Blue Earth, passed away peacefully in the loving presence of family and friends on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. A memorial service is pending, with burial at Blue Earth cemetery.

She was born in Minneapolis on Dec. 21, 1937, to Emil G. (Mike) and Juliann Sperlich. When she was four, the family moved to Blue Earth, where she attended Blue Earth Public Schools, graduating in 1955.

Sylvia worked at Blue Earth State Bank, for Loren Lein at State Farm, at Wells Federal Savings and Loan (which later became Wells Federal Bank), and was Financial Secretary for Trinity Lutheran Church.

In May 1958, she married Charles (Chuck) Christian, and they had two children, Julie Kay and Mark Charles. She loved her God and family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Together, Sylvia and Chuck enjoyed bird-watching the cardinals and traveling in the United States, especially chartered bus trips. She loved reading, coffee parties, and her flower garden. Sewing doll clothes also kept her busy. In her most recent years, she enjoyed the activities at her home, Ecumen Brooks, with new friends and she loved embroidering quilts.

Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Julie (Tim) Lewis; son, Mark (Josie) Christian; sister, Janice (Arnold) Flentje; four grandchildren: Timothy J. (Jenny) Lewis, Brie Anne (Dan) Melcher, Kathryn, and Alexander Christian; and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Juli Ann Lewis; and many nieces and nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chuck; parents, Emil G. and Juliann Sperlich; father and mother-in-law, Orville and Regina Christian; brother and sister-in-law, Joel and Delores Christian; James and Mavis Ogilvie, Darrel and Opal Hagedorn, and Orlean Christian.
