Duane H. Schutt, 94

Winnebago – Duane Howard Schutt, age 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, MN.

Duane was born Feb. 28, 1930 in Madison. The first son of Fredrick and Lavina Schutt, he grew up in several towns in North Dakota and Minnesota. Duane served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1952 and saw many places around the world during that time. Duane married Delores Elaine Behlmer on May 24, 1953 in St. James.

Duane worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Company for 11 years, a few elevators over the years, and farmed for many years. He liked working outdoors and figuring out why things didn’t work and fixing them. He enjoyed repairing bicycles, playing cards, fishing trips to Grand Marais, hunting deer, raising chickens, chickens, and more chickens! Duane grew a huge vegetable garden and enjoyed “sharing his crop” with as many people as possible. He always had a story or joke to share.

Duane was a long-time member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Winnebago where he served on the board and taught Confirmation classes. Duane loved all his family and friends dearly. Now Duane is in heaven with the one he trusted most, our Risen Savior Jesus Christ!

Duane is survived by his sons: Steven (Ranae) Schutt of Winnebago, Kim (Shelly) Schutt of Trenton MI, Joel (Roxanne) Schutt of Winnebago; six grandchildren: Jeremiah (Heidi), Amanda (Thomas), Gregory, Kayla (Ricky), Olivia (Mitchell), and Stephanie, seven great- grandchildren: Gus, Joshua, Harrison, Eleanor, Marley, Murphy, and Ariana; special friends, Bert Howard and Kels Pawlitschek, and many other family, and friends.

Duane is preceded in death by his wife, Delores (Behlmer) Schutt; brothers, Harris Schutt, Jerry Schutt, and Myron Schutt; and sister, Carol Hohenstein. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to Shriners Children’s Hospital, the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Winnebago or donor’s choice.

The family extends a sincere thank you to all UHD staff, ambulance, and Hospice team, Winnebago Area Ambulance (EMS), and St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center for their special, personal care not only the past few weeks but over many years of health challenges. Spencer-Owen Funeral Home is entrusted in assisting the family with arrangements.

Visitation was held at Spencer-Owen Funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024. A Funeral Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Winnebago, Rev. Michael Omtvedt officiated. Burial took place at Riverside Cemetery in rural Winnebago with Military honors.
