Eleanor Johnson, 100

Winnebago – Eleanor (Mair) Johnson was born at home near Huntley on April 2, 1924, the youngest daughter of Hugh and Minnie (Duff) Mair. Eleanor attended school in Huntley, graduating in 1942. The following year she attended the Minneapolis Business College completing a secretarial diploma. She then returned to Fairmont to work as a secretary for Fairmont Canning Company.

Eleanor was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) C. Johnson on May 29, 1946 in the Methodist Church at Fairmont shortly after Bob returned home from serving in the Army in World War II. In the early years of the marriage, Bob and Eleanor lived in Wells and Blue Earth before moving to Winnebago in 1953 where Bob began Winnebago Implement and Auto. Eleanor remained at home to raise their five children; Jim, Dean, Chuck, Wendy and David. While the children were growing up, Eleanor volunteered in helping with Cub Scouts and Brownies, church and school PTO activities. Eleanor was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago participating in Women’s Circles, Serving Divisions and “Next to New.” She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Eleanor is survived by her children: Jim Johnson (Kay Boettcher) of Remer, Dean Johnson of Fairmont, Chuck Johnson of Bloomington, Wendy Johnson of Babbitt and David Johnson of Windom; her grandchildren: Dr. Monte (Jennifer) Johnson of Victoria, Dr. Kari (Bill) Roberts of St. Paul, and Ryan (Alonna) Johnson of Fergus Falls; nine great-grandchildren: Braden and Tanner Johnson, Gavin, Isaac and Brooke Roberts and Micah, Owen, Maryn and Carson Johnson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents; four brothers; four sisters as well as their spouses; daughters-in-law, Susan Traen Johnson and Sara Metzinger Johnson (Dean); and son-in-law, David Kasper (Wendy).

Eleanor passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024 at the age of 100. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at the First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago, Pastor Jill Emery officiated.
