Thomas Eugene Nodland, 100

Frost – T. Eugene Nodland, age 100, formerly of Frost, MN, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, at Arlington Place Assisted Living & Memory Care in Oelwein, IA.

Eugene was born on the Nodland family farm on Oct. 19, 1924 to parents Thomas and Anna Marie (Larson) Nodland. Eugene was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Frost, and graduated from Frost High School in 1943.

On March 9, 1947, Eugene married Anna Mae Vaagen at Liberty Lutheran Church, Rake, IA. They lived, they farmed and they raised three children on the farm where Eugene was born. Eugene retired from farming in 1993. He was a life long member of Bethany and served on the Bethany Cemetery board for many years. He took great pride in ensuring the cemetery was well cared for. After retirement, Eugene and Anna Mae enjoyed traveling to Norway, Australia, China as well as many other European countries. Eugene loved woodworking in his shop, sharing many of his beautiful projects with family, friends, and contributing them to Bethany’s annual Church Bazaar.

Eugene is survived by daughter, Twyla (Larsen)Oelwein, IA; and son, Jeff (Becky) The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Chrissy (Mike) Spear, Davenport, IA, Erik (Ashwini), Frisco, TX, Emily (Kyle) VanderLoop, Oregon, WI; step-grandchildren, Samantha Spear, Waterloo, IA, Clayton (Ali) Spear, Beamon, IA; great-grandchildren, Hans and Maren Nodland, Lucy and Isla Vanderloop; and step-great grandson, Leo Spear; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Mae, after nearly 77 years of marriage; son, Tom; son-in-law, Larry Larsen; great-granddaughter, Jessica Spear; and siblings, Thelmer Nodland and Charlotte Henderson.

Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 14 at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Frost MN at 11 a.m. A luncheon will be held following the service and burial at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery.

The Geilenfeld-Buehner Funeral Home in Oelwein is assisting the family. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
