Carol Y. (Poole) Kvittem, 88

Jan 26, 2026

Carol Yvonne (Poole) Kvittem, currently residing in Savage, Minnesota, formerly of Winnebago, Minnesota, passed away January 22, 2026, at The Meadows in Savage. Carol was 88 years old.

Carol was born on the family farm in Winnebago on May 25, 1937, the daughter of Jesse Howland and Irene Nuella (Olson) Poole. She was a graduate of the Huntley High School, the class of 1955. She then attended the University of Minnesota, Saint Paul campus. She studied to be a home economics instructor and was a member of the Clovia Sorority. It was Carol’s freshman year that she met Duane Harlan Kvittem. They would be united in marriage on August 3, 1959, at First Baptist Church in Winnebago.

They went back to Saint Paul as Carol had one more year of college to complete. They then would make a couple of moves as Duane began his career and had their children as they moved around. The couple eventually settled in Burnsville, Minnesota, where Carol proclaimed, “I want his to be home.” They spent the next 30 years making a home full of love and support for their children. Once the kids had moved on with their own lives Carol and Duane moved to Omaha, Nebraska for a career move for Duane. When retirement came around, they relocated to Carol’s family’s farmstead in Winnebago. They recently moved to Savage as Carol continued to need more care.

Carol was a woman of deep Christian Faith and Strength. She showed that strength from the time she was a child, as she suffered a paralyzing injury at the age of 2 in which she had to relearn to walk. She continued with quiet strength throughout her life, overcoming many illnesses and always exemplifying respect and love for her children and grandchildren. She made every effort to support her children and grandchildren by attending every event and activity she could.

She relished being busy and was a social butterfly. She was an excellent seamstress, making much of her children’s clothing when they were young. Carol belonged to knitting and quilting clubs, with many of her creations going to charitable causes. She was a member of the Red Hat Club, and hosted Bible Studies at her home, which she kept immaculate at all times. We will hold close her love and were blessed to have had her as our mother and grandmother.

Carol is survived by her husband of 66 years, Duane; children, Shellie (Mark) Konz, Brian (Brenda Hopkins) Kvittem, Lori (Ken Tupy) Eads, and Kirsten (Jeff) Winkler; grandchildren, Anna, Nicholas (Jill), Jacob (Kristen), Hannah (Jordan), Tonya (Bryan), Nichole (Taylor) Courtney (Jason), Jessica (Troyce) and Maxwell; great-grandchildren, Asher, Myla, Michael, Layla, Tristen, Aurora, Landon, Sophia, Olivia, Rese, Emery, Trysten, Truett, and twins arriving in July, Huntlee and Trayson.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Irene Poole; and siblings, Janice (Stevens), Melvin Poole.
