Norfolk, VA – James (Jim) Wayne Kadlecik, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Norfolk, VA on Jan. 5, 2026.
Jim was born on Sept. 14, 1944 in Iowa City, IA to the late Mike Kadlecik and Marion (Torneby) Kadlecik. Mike and Marion were later divorced; they each married again. Jim lived with his father and step-mother Mable; later, Jim lived with his beloved guardians, Steve and Lilly Kadlecik of Crystal Lake, IA. Jim graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1963.
Jim honorably served his country, first as a proud four-year member of the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam, and subsequently in the United States Navy for an additional 26 years. During his distinguished naval career, he retired at the rank of Master Chief, specializing as an Aviation Electrician and Maintenance Supervisor for the F-14 Tomcats. He was in Fighter Squadrons VF-11, VF-14, and VF-143. His dedication and service to his country were exemplary, earning him many commendations including a Meritorious Service Award and respect and admiration from all who knew him.
Jim and Debbie (Reeves) of Bricelyn, MN were married in 1971. After his naval retirement in 1992, they moved to rural Frost, MN, and then to Blue Earth, MN for a short time, where Jim worked at Kerry Ingredients and Debbie worked at St. Luke’s Care Center. They moved back to Virginia Beach in 1994 where Jim began Civil Service employment.
Jim was an avid golfer and a passionate fisherman, pursuits that brought him great happiness and many cherished memories. He loved his grandchildren dearly and shared his love of the water with them.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, Mike Kadlecik; his mother, Marion; his step-mother, Mable; and his step-father, Wayne Christensen; his sister-in-law, Darlene Kadlecik; and his brothers, Dennis Aukes and Mike Kadlecik Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Debbie; his devoted daughters, Kimberly Reed and Michelle Rasmussen; his five grandchildren: Jack IV, Luke (Sydney), and Kate; Jaimyan and Jonathyn Da Veiga. He is survived by his siblings, Ronald, Patricia Gibson, Rodney Aukes, Sherry (Harold) Swihart, Gary, and Marsha. Numerous family members and friends will miss him dearly.
