John L. Sabin, 80

Feb 27, 2026

Formerly of Blue Earth – John LaNels Sabin, 80, of Mankato and formerly of Blue Earth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, finding comfort in the presence of his family during his final days.

John was born on Oct. 4, 1945, to Arthur and Selma Sabin. He graduated from Blue Earth High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War.

John was proud to help start the Blue Earth Auto Fair in 1990, and took great care in assisting with flags and Memorial Day preparations at Riverside Cemetery. He enjoyed being part of the community, often having coffee at one of the local restaurants or shooting pool at the senior center.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mavis, and their children: Michael (Andrea) Sabin, Stacy Sabin (Cordell Klier), and Tracy (Matthew) Crowson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andrew Sabin and Ragan Wysock; sister-in-law, Marie Swedberg with sons, Mark and Kevin; and brother-in-law, Charles Schroeder.

John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed classic car shows, old westerns, car auctions, morning coffee with the guys, and Mavis’ homemade sweets. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
