New staff writer joins the Register
My name is Brock Buesing and I am a new staff writer for the Register.
I am originally from Little Canada. For those of you who have no idea where that is (let’s face it, not a lot of people do) it is a suburb 10 minutes away from St. Paul. I grew up on a lake and spending time jet skiing, water skiing, fishing and swimming with my family was and always will be a priceless memory of mine.
I have a twin brother who is only five minutes older than me. He just bought a house in White Bear Lake. My mom and dad work with psychology and architecture and have two gorgeous greyhounds named Jazz and Jewel.
I went to Augustana in Sioux Falls, S.D. for my freshman year of college. However, I did not stay there because it was not for me. I decided to transfer to Bethel University in Arden Hills.
I graduated from Bethel University with a journalism degree in May 2012. A highlight for me was when I moved to New York City interning with a Wall Street Journal writer. We tackled a lot of freelance writing projects; I wrote a couple of articles for ESPN, too.
I worked at Gold’s Gym (since then has changed its name to Xperience Fitness) as a front desk represenative and service manager for three years while attending college. After college I was offered an operations manager position at the gym.
I was not doing what I loved, so I moved on and tried to get a job within my journalism major. After many frustrating interview processes I was left with nothing. That was until I ran into my old neighbor who owned a Montessori school. I jokingly asked him if there were any openings and they actually did need someone. So I was an assistant teacher at Choo Choo Montessori (cute, I know…) from October 2012 to August 2013. Working with toddlers and preschoolers really opened my eyes and forced me to be more patient. I have countless stories and some memories that will definitely last a lifetime.
I love to golf and play any sports (except hockey… I have no idea how people do that). The Minnesota Vikings are my favorite sports team. Some of my best memories growing up were going to the Viking games with my dad. If you want to know where I live, just listen for the hooting and hollering on football Sundays. I also love the Minnesota Timberwolves; I don’t know how much longer I can take the Twins, who are going to challenge 100 losses this year.
I love any sports movies and ones that make you think.
I listen to hip-hop and mainly country music.
My favorite season is fall and spring time.
I am very excited to be in Blue Earth; so far this little city has been very big in welcoming this city boy.
I love how everyone is so generous and how everyone smiles at me walking down the street; why wouldn’t you… there is no traffic in Blue Earth.
Don’t be afraid to say hi to the new guy in town; I am very outgoing and would love to meet you. It feels great to call myself a Blue Earthian.
