Lein questions committee make up
To the Editor:
Why
didn’t the Faribault County Commissioners select a commissioner to serve on a committee which will oversee who pays for mistakes or corrections at the law enforcement center?
The county board selected County Auditor John Thompson and County Sheriff Mike Gormley to serve as the committee. They may be well qualified, but they didn’t vote to build the LEC. Remember, “the buck has to stop somewhere.” The committee can pay out up to $2,500 for each change or correction, then decide who should be responsible for it.
When Commissioner John Roper amended the motion to include a member of the board on the committee, it failed to pass on a 2-2 tie. I think if Commissioner Roper would like to serve on the committee he should. He seems to have an interest in it.
Remember, one change (or mistake), already amounted to $24,000, and we paid $12,000 of that.
I enjoy attending the meetings more now than before, when I was a commissioner.
