Road to the White House on hold

By Staff | Oct 9, 2011

When presidential candidate John Davis said he was arriving in Blue Earth at 2:03 p.m. on Oct. 5, the odd time of arrival grabbed the attention of editorial staff at the Register.

John Davis’ Votercade across America Presidential Campaign was scheduled to roll into Green Giant Park not at 2:00, or 2:05 but 2:03.

That is until a mechanical bus failure forced the cancellation of stops Oct. 5 and 6.

Davis was stranded in Sioux Falls, S.D. hoping to reschedule all 19 stops along the Interstate 90 corridor.

Campaign officials say Davis and his wife may have to rent a car to complete their scheduled tour across America.

In Davis’ biography, he says, “I don’t look like a president. I don’t talk like a president and I don’t act like a president, but I do have what it takes to be a president.”

The time of arrival scheduled for Davis’ campaign stop provides a good illustration of this sentiment.

Politicians notoriously show up late after staying too long at their previous stops. It has even been said that it raises their perception of importance.

Davis had the opportunity of breaking away from the stereotype by cruising in on his red, white and blue tour bus at precisely 2:03 p.m.

When the clock struck 2:04 p.m. disappointment sunk in. He hadn’t lived up to his original promise.

In my book, anyone who has the time management skills to make six stops prior to Blue Earth and arrive at such an odd time deserves a shot at the Oval Office.

Davis’ unconventional pattern of behavior for a politician gunning for the White House does not stop at weird arrival times.

His official campaign picture is of him holding a pipe wrench patterned after the American flag. Complete with an outfit of a plaid shirt and vest.

Education also produces a massive hole in the resume.

Davis did not graduate from college. The past three presidents have prestigious degrees. Barack Obama has a degree from Harvard Law School, George W. Bush graduated from Harvard Business School and Bill Clinton graduated from Yale Law School.

Davis’ equivalent?

He says he has attended the school of hard knocks many times over. Political experience doesn’t bode well for Davis either.

His biography doesn’t mention any.

So why is Davis pursuing this almost unattainable feat of winning the 2012 election?

The only logical reason I can come up with is this:

In grade school, Davis was the ambitious student who told his teacher he wanted to be President of the United States of America. Unlike most students, he just never let go of the dream. The man has most likely had “Hail to the Chief” playing in his head since the second grade.

Whatever the case may be, you have to admire Davis’ perseverance and ambition.
