Ready for some good fun this summer in Faribault County?

By Chuck Hunt - Editor | Jun 4, 2023

Man, what just happened?

Where did the month of May go? How is it already June 1?

Well, maybe May whipped by because there was something going on every day and every night, especially for us at the Faribault County Register. There were sports, concerts and award ceremonies nearly every single day for us to go cover.

Just look at some of the photo essays in the past couple of issues of the Register and you can see what I mean. We took so many photos our cameras almost exploded.

And now, suddenly it is summer. There are always about four things that signify to me it is summer.

One, Memorial Day Weekend is over. Two, it is June 1 as I write this column. Three, the last day of school and area graduations are about to happen.

And four? Well, the fourth thing is that the annual Register’s ‘Best of Summer’ magazine is out. It is chock full of ads and stories about all the events that are planned for all around Faribault County.

Some are about to happen this week, so you better be sure to check out this magazine and see what is happening. I mean, you don’t want to miss anything, do you?

We spend the month of May creating this magazine. In fact, we virtually start working on it on May 1. The staff gets busy selling ads and trying to find out what all the towns have planned for their summer events.

It is not so easy. Sometimes these summer event plans are not all set in stone in May, or at least maybe it is not until the end of May.

Somehow we get everything tracked down, created, written and put together by the drop-dead deadline of the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend.

We hope you take a little time and look through the BOS magazine and see what is going on all summer long. There is almost something every single weekend throughout the summer months, somewhere in the county.

Maybe this is the summer, when you are looking for something to do, that you might go to one of the town events and check them out.

Over the years, I have made it to every one of these events, at one time or another, and while they all have some similar things about them, like a parade, there are some unique qualities to each one as well.

For instance, this year Easton is celebrating their 150th anniversary of the town, quite a milestone.

Most of the celebrations have bounced back from the years of COVID when many of them canceled the town summer celebration altogether. Now some are adding new things and have made some changes. All are worth checking out.

So, if you are sitting at home, with not a lot to do this summer, keep that ‘Best of Summer’ magazine handy and check out what is going on in Faribault County and take a little road trip around the county and check out something new. Or maybe it is something you did years ago, and want to see how it is done now.

Who knows? You just might have a whole lot of fun.

When you go, you might see one of us from the Faribault County Register hanging around taking some photos for the newspaper. Maybe even one of you having fun.

That is, if we haven’t totally exploded our cameras during the busy month of May and can get them working again.

Welcome to summer, everyone. Get out and enjoy it, because June, July and August are just like May – they whip by fast.

And, in the words of Ferris Bueller, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

See you around this summer.
