The Blue Earth Area girls basketball team powered ahead early in the season after they stacked up two more wins last week.

The Bucs most recent win was against the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants.

BEA traveled to LSH on Tuesday where the Bucs defeated the home team, 55-21.

From the tip off, the Bucs had no intentions of going easy on the Giants, especially in the first half of the match up.

The Bucs took the lead with 33 points before the first half buzzer went off and the Giants were left in the dust with only nine points.

Krista Hassing and Janessa Jahnke scored 10 points apiece during the first half of the game. Both seniors successfully sank five two-pointers each.

Karli Olsen also contributed six points to their first half success, by scoring three of three two-point shot attempts.

However, the Bucs didn’t let up during the second half of the game either. They racked up another 22 points, while the Giants only managed to score 12 additional points in the second half.

Jahnke finished the game with a total of 14 points. She went for 12 shots and successfully sank seven.

Hassing matched her teammate, scoring 14 points in the game as well. She scored 7 of 9 two-point attempts, at 78 percent accuracy rate.

Olsen was also one of the top-scoring Bucs with a total of eight points. She attempted six two-pointers and made four.

BEA had 30 rebounds 18 defensive and 12 offensive. Jahnke had the most rebounds for the Bucs, accounting for eight of the 30.

The Bucs may have had 15 turnovers during the game, but the Giants had 22 17 of which were during the first half of the game, leading to most of the Buc’s first half points.

The basketball team played their next game away, against Southwest Star Concept on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m.

BEA 47, New Ulm 26

The Buc girls basketball team tallied another win, this time against the New Ulm Eagles.

Blue Earth Area traveled to New Ulm on Nov. 30 for their first South Central Conference match up of the season.

“It’s good to start the conference season with a win,” Coach Al Cue says. “The girls had a very solid game on defense.”

The Bucs quickly took the lead during the first half of the game, scoring 21 points to the Eagles 10.

The last half allowed the girls in maroon and gold to score 26 more points, outscoring the Eagles by 10.

The final scoreboard read 47-26 in the Bucs favor.

Hassing scored 12 points for the Bucs. She made six points at the free-throw line and made three two-pointers.

Hassing also grabbed six rebounds; three offensive and three defensive rebounds.

Janessa Jahnke, Whitney Pirsig and Jenna Stevermer were responsible for scoring seven points each.

Jahnke went 5 of 8 at the free-throw line and made one two-pointer.

Taylor Grandgenett scored three at the free-throw line, missing only one foul shot.

The victories against the New Ulm Eagles and the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants put the Bucs at a 3-0 season record and a 1-0 conference record.

“There are still many things to work on, but game two was an improvement over game one,” the Bucs coach says.
