Albert Lea Richard E. Hovland, died Jan. 7, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. He was 85 years 1 month 7 days.
Memorial Services will be held on June 1, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the North Blue Earth Lutheran Church in rural Bricelyn with Rev. Milton Ost officiating.
Richard was born to parents, Alfred and Bennia (Anderson) Hovland, on Nov. 24, 1927. He was baptized by the Rev. Hans O. Mosby. He was confirmed at the North Blue Earth Church by Rev. H.K. Narum. On June 26, 1949, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Lange at N.B.E. Church by Rev. H.K. Narum. Four children: Carroll R. Hovland, Julie (Jim) Yahnke, Laurie Hovland, and Sue (Steven) Wright.

Richard had basic training at Camp Rucker, Ala. Active service in Korea with First Cavalry Division, 8th Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Company K from January 1950 until late Spring 1952. He farmed for a number of years then worked as a graphic artist for many years. Some years as employee at the Camelback Inn, Phoenix, Ariz. He received employee of the month award.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of 63 years marriage; one sister, Ramona (Arlen) Legred; one brother-in-law, Howard (JoAnn) Lange, grandchildren, Casey (Jenny) Hamborg, Kelly Hamborg and son Avary. Many cousins especially Phyllis and Carmen Mundale, Bonnie (Mundale) and Bill Ashpole, Eileen (Anderson) Krinke, Lester (Lois) Anderson, Verlie (Anderson) Kaupa (Gerald), Bonnie (Anderson) Weum (Gordy) and his beloved poodle, Gracie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sharon Johnson.
