Pearl Cheney, 79

Fairmont Memorial Services for Pearl Cheney, age 79, of Fairmont, were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Burial will be held at a later date in the Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation was two hours prior to the time of service beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Pearl passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont assisted the family with arrangements.

Amy Pearl Cheney was born on Feb. 20. 1934, in Winnebago, the daughter of Charles and Clara (Day) Starkweather. She attended school and graduated from Winnebago High School in 1952. Following her graduation, Pearl attended beauty school in Minneapolis and received her license to be a beautician.

On May 4, 1957, Pearl was united in marriage to George Cheney at the Presbyterian Church in Winnebago. To this union four children were born, Marcia, Patrick, Susan, and James. Pearl and George made their home in Fairmont and Winnebago before moving to Montana for a short time. They would then return to Fairmont where Pearl owned and operated her own Beauty Salon for many years retiring in 1994 and moving to Browerville, where they enjoyed the scenery and wildlife. In 2008, the couple returned to Fairmont to be closer to family.

Pearl was an active person and enjoyed tending to her garden, sewing, and quilting. She looked forward to trips and new adventures to places throughout all 50 states and Costa Rica. Pearl had fond memories of camping trips with her children when they were young and she cherished Holidays spent with her siblings in Oklahoma, Florida, and Missouri. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairmont and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as past president. Pearl will be greatly missed by those that loved her and called her friend.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, George Cheney, of Jackson; children, Marcia Cheney, of Fairmont, Susan Cheney, of St. Cloud, and James Cheney, of Fairmont; grandchildren, Amber Cheney, of St. Cloud, and Dakotah Cheney, of Fairmont; sister, Carol Maurer, of Ocala, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Vi Steenhard, Melva Schultze, and Stella Cheney; and a brother-in-law, Irvin Cheney; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Clara Starkweather; son, Patrick Cheney; two sisters, Merle Monroe and Jeanette Sharp; brother, Lawrence Walker; sisters-in-law, Leatrice Walker and Lois Cheney; brothers-in-law, RC Monroe, Bernard Sharp, Harlan Cheney, Raymond Steenhard, Arthur Schultze, and Charles Maurer; a nephew, William Sharp; and a niece, Lisa Walker.
