Pirates continue their winning ways

The Pirates traveled to New Richland last Wednesday where they won a close game against the Reds.

The Pirates had a strong lead on their opponents throughout the beginning of the game. By the sixth inning Blue Earth held a 5-0 advantage.

The next two innings, the Reds fought back and tied up the game, 5-5, by the top of the eighth inning.

But Blue Earth brought in an additional two runs of their own, pulling ahead 7-5.

Brandyn Olsen pitched five innings for the Pirates and faced 21 batters. He allowed two walks, two hits and had five strikeouts.

Dallas Barslou took the mound for three innings. He pitched to 18 batters and allowed two walks, five hits and five runs and contributed two strikeouts.

Lee hodges pitched to six batters in the last inning when he only allowed one hit and struck out the last three Reds’ batters.

T.J. Schmidtke was 3 for 3 at bat and scored two Pirate runs.

Bob Olson was 2 for 5 and scored one run in the eighth inning helping his team pull ahead after the Reds tied it up.

Barslou scored two runs getting on base after being hit by a pitch and taking one base on balls.

John Franta was 1 for 3 and stole a base and scored a run.

The Pirates’ next game will be played on June 8 in Blue Earth against Minnesota Lake.

Fairmont 1

The Blue Earth Pirates were scheduled to take on the Fairmont Martins on May 24 however that game was postponed.

So, the Martins traveled to Blue Earth to make up almost a week later on May 30.

Only the second game of the season, the Pirates are going for a perfect record as they were able to tally a win against Fairmont 3-1.

Lee Hodges pitched for four innings. He faced 18 batters and allowed four hits and one run.

The sole run for the Martins came in the fourth inning after the Pirates scored two runs the inning prior.

Aaron Wendt also took the mound for Blue Earth pitching five innings. He pitched to 15 batters, six of which were strikeouts.

Wendt pitched five scoreless, 1-2-3 innings.

T.J. Stallman brought in the first run for the Pirates in the third inning. He went 1 for 3 at bat scoring one run and hitting one sacrifice.

John Franta was the next Pirates player to score a run. He was 2 for 3 at bat with one run.

The only other Blue Earth player to score was Bob Olson, he was 2 for 3 at bat and crossed the plate during the sixth inning.
