Augusta, Maine Cordula Rose (Eckhardt) Sowers, age 100, passed away June 10, 2014, in Augusta, Maine, with her daughter by her side. She was born March 14, 1914, in Blue Earth, the daughter of Gustav Adolph and Dorathea (Maass) Eckhardt.
She grew up on the Eckhardt farm in Blue Earth. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. On Oct. 15, 1950, she married Roland G. Sowers of Vernon Center. She and her husband moved their family to California in 1957. She was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Lancaster, Calif., for 40 years, involved in the quilting group, LWML, choir, and Lutheran Braille Workers. She moved to Maine in 2001 to be near her daughter and became a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Waterville, Maine. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, playing piano and organ, choir and driving cross-country. She enjoyed planning and taking road trips to Minnesota and Maine, visiting family, friends and National and State Parks.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy R. (David) McAllister, of Augusta, and Sally B. (Nicholas) Nacca, of San Diego, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Marcia D. Sowers, of San Diego; three grandsons, Robert P. (Laura) Sowers, of Corona, Calif., Brian G. (Erin) McAllister, of Portland, Maine, and Adams D. McAllister, of Augusta; granddaughter, Amy L. (Benny) Rodriguez, of San Diego; and six great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, Roland, and her son, Philip R. Sowers.
