Vicki Krusemark-Russ, 72

Sep 11, 2016

Blue Earth Vicki June Krusemark-Russ, age 72, of Blue Earth, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at her residence. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Hope United Methodist Church in Blue Earth, Rev. Russ Jacobsen officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth.

Vicki was the eldest daughter of Les and Ruth (Wheaton) Krusemark, born on Oct. 5, 1943 in Albert Lea. Her father was managing a Red Owl store in Wells at that time and there wasn’t a hospital in Wells. In 1949, the Krusemark family moved to Blue Earth, and her father owned and managed the Red Owl store there. Vicki attended Blue Earth Public Schools and graduated in June of 1961. She met her future husband, A.B. Russ at freshman registration at Mankato State College that fall. They were married Dec. 21, 1963 during winter break at Salem EUB church in Blue Earth. Vicki’s uncle Burdette Siewert was the pastor that tied the knot.

Vicki earned a degree in elementary education from Mankato State College and taught one year and was not happy in that vocation. She became a full time mom and raised three children. When she was about 40, she returned to school, but this time it was at the Vo Tech College in North Mankato. She earned a degree in drafting and worked for Nordass American Homes for two years and then she established her own drafting business, plus she worked hand in hand with Earth Sheltered Homes of Mankato. She became very good at her new vocation and often had more business than she could handle. Ten years ago, she and her husband A.B. moved to Blue Earth and had Vicki’s mother, Ruth Krusemark, live with them.

She loved her church and was very active in many aspects of the church life. She was not afraid to take on new projects and see them through to the finish. Her two grandchildren were her real joy. A few days before she passed, her nine year old grandson, Ryan, got into bed with his grandmother and read Dr. Seuss stories to her and after a short while a smile came back to Vicki’s face once again.

Vicki is survived by her husband, A.B. Russ; her children, Jesse William Russ and special friend, Jill Schroeder, of Warren, Samuel Fredric Russ, of Mankato and Gina (Jason) Russ-Felts; two grandchildren, Ryan and Alexander Felts; siblings, Larry (Edith) Krusemark, of Redwood City, California, Richard (Rosalie) Krusemark, of Andover, Beverly (Bruce) Krusemark-Ranstrom, of Warren, Rande (Deb) Krusemark of Stewartville, David (Sandra) Krusemark, of Fairmont and Don (Beth) Krusemark, of Mankato.
