Arlene Holm

Blue Earth Arlene N. Holm, age 94, of Blue Earth, died Friday, March 31, 2017, at Grand Lake Villa in Grove, Oklahoma.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday April 8, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, Rev. Jeanette J. Bidne officiated. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth.

Arlene was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Pilot Grove Township, the daughter of Nels and Agnes (Holland) Ihle. In 1939, Arlene graduated from Elmore High School followed by a short time at Lutheran Bible Institute. For over 24 years, Arlene was a postal clerk at Elmore and Mankato Post Offices. After retiring from the postal service, Arlene was part owner of the Quilt Company in Blue Earth.

On Oct. 22, 1949 Arlene married Ray Holm at Salem Lutheran Church in Pilot Grove. Ray and Arlene built their home and lived in Pilot Grove for over thirty years where they raised their three daughters and operated the Pilot Grove Lumber Company. Ray and Arlene were active members of Salem Lutheran Church and in 1980 after they moved to Blue Earth, they became members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Ray died in 1982.

Over her lifetime, Arlene participated in many service related activities. While at Salem Lutheran, she held many offices in the Ladies Aid. While at Trinity, Arlene was active in the TLCW.

Arlene, will be best remembered for her devotion to faith, family, neighbors and friends. She had a talent and passion for quilting and leaves these treasured heirlooms behind, as a subtle reminder of Christ’s love for us. She enjoyed growing roses, feeding songbirds, following Minnesota Twins baseball and attending the Blue Earth Bucs basketball games.

Arlene N. Holm is survived by her daughters, Cathy Strickland, of Oswego, Kansas, Cindy (Terry) Martin, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Nancy (Jim) Dawson, of Elizabethtown, New York. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
