Bucs go down at State True Team

Hannah Johnson leaps forward during the long jump competition at the State True Team track meet on May 20, finishing the event with an eighth-place mark of 14-3. Johnson and the Buccaneer girls ended in ninth on the day, while the Blue Earth Area boys had an eighth-place finish overall.

With brutal, bitter cold and relentless rain, the Blue Earth Area Bucs came up a little soggy at the State True Team meet in Stillwater on May 20.

Some gritty performances by both the boys and girls team did not bring in the victories the Buccaneers were hoping for.

The boys team was able to place eighth out of nine, while the girls team took last place.

Holdingford placed first in the boys State True Team meet with 462 points followed by Pine Island with 375 for second. Third place went to St. Charles with 371 points while Ada/Norman City earned fourth place with 364 points. Luverne snuck in at fifth place with 334 points, followed by Wadena-Deer Creek in sixth place with 281 points. Maple Lake narrowly earned seventh place with 262 points while BEA earned 259 points for their eighth placing with Moose Lake/Willow River coming in ninth with 216.

Seth Becker was the golden boy who brought home the only first place win for the Bucs at the State True Team meet. His 300 meter intermediate hurdles run got him gold with a time of 42.94 seconds. Becker also placed third in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 16.57.

Discus: Grant Madetzke (fifth, 109-1), Jordan Frandle (sixteenth, 86-8).

Girls Results:

Osakis placed first with 388.5 points to win the State True Team meet, followed by Luverne in second with 387 points and Lanesboro/Fillmore Central in third with 371.5. Maple Lake was able to nab fourth with 354 points, while Pierz followed close behind for fifth with 351.5 points. Howard Lake-Waverly earned sixth place with 313 points while Frazee was only 13 points shy of them, placing seventh with 300 points. Park Rapids beat out BEA for eighth place with 277.5 while BEA only earned 189 points for the meet.

“Tough meet for the ladies today as it just didn’t seem to be our day,” said head coach Tom Plocker. “Nevertheless, some commendable efforts.”

Including that of the dynamic pole-vaulting duo Melissa Hagedorn and Nicole Lium who both tied for first place with a height of 9-6.
