Two girls golfers named All-BSC at tournament

By Staff | May 26, 2017

The Blue Earth Area girls golf team struggled a bit on the Worthington golf course last Monday during the Big South Conference Tournament.

But two of the Buccaneers did come away with All Big South Conference honors at the end of the day.

Mateja Lane and Malarie Scholtes were both named to the All-BSC team.

The honor comes from a total of conference points earned both during each conference dual meet, and at Monday’s conference tournament.

The top 18 players with the most conference points make the team.

Lane had a total of 342 points and was tied for 13th on the conference list. Scholtes came in with 290 points and was 18th.

Lane and Scholtes have consistently led the Buccaneers all season, and on Monday they again were the two low scorers for the maroon and gold.

Lane shot a 97 (48-49) and came in at 18th place and Scholtes shot a 103 (51-52), good for 24th place.

Buccaneer Serina Wirth carded a 124 (62-62) for 57th place and Olivia Myers a 130 (59-71) for 60th place, to round out BEA’s team score.

Marshall won the BSC Conference Tournament with a score of 344 over 100 strokes less than BEA and nearly 40 strokes better than second place St. Peter which tallied a 383.

In third was Windom with 399, fourth was Worthington and Luverne both tied one stroke back at 400, sixth was Waseca at 411, seventh was New Ulm at 416, eighth Jackson County Central with 418, ninth Fairmont at 435, then BEA 10th with 454, Pipestone 11th with 462, Redwood 12th with 527 (only three players so the fourth score was 200), and 13th place St. James with 719 (only one player so three 200 scores).

Three players came in with identical scores of 83 to tie for medalist honors St. Peter’s Anna Amos, Marshall’s Kaylee Gossen and Windom’s Hallie Will.

The Blue Earth Area girls golf team was slated for a regular follow-up meet on Tuesday, May 23, and that day’s action, against United South Central, was moved to Riverside Town & Country Club Golf Course, whereas the Buccaneer boys went to Elmore’s Minn-Iowa Golf Course for a matchup with the Rebels.

Results of the boys’ USC meet can be found in detail on page 11 of this week’s Faribault County Register sports section.
