12 BEA students earn Academic All-State

The Blue Earth Area track and field athletes were named Academic All-State for the 2017.

According to head coach Tom Plocker, in order to be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must be in grades 9-12, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6 and meet at least one of the following track standards: earn All-Conference honors, or qualify for the individual State Meet, or meet at least one of the standards on raceberryjam.com (a site for reporting outstanding performances in Minnesota.)

The Buccaneer honorees for the 2017 season are Jordan Frandle (100 meter dash), Melissa Hagedorn (100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, pole vault), Clayton Johnson (4×800 meter relay), Gunnar Fering (110 meter high hurdles), Lindsey Norman (shot put), Sidney Blair (300 meter hurdles), Amanda Jacobson (4×400 meter relay), Hannah Johnson (4×400 meter relay), Adam Griffin (4×800 meter relay), Kaitlin Johnson (4×400 meter relay), Brady Olsen (4×800 meter relay), and Grant Strukel (4×800 meter relay, 3200 meter run, 1600 meter run).

Plocker also mentions both Buccaneer teams also achieved the gold level, academically, which requires an average cumulative GPA of at least 3.75. The BEA girls accumulated an average GPA of 3.94 while the boys tallied a 3.80 cumulative GPA.
