Blue Earth Area senior catcher Kaylan Legred was named to the Big South All-Conference team after an outstanding individual effort in the 2017 season. Legred was also chosen to play for the South All-Star team this past weekend in Chaska and will continue his career on the baseball diamond at the University of Minnesota in Duluth.

For the season, Legred enjoyed a healthy .427 batting average which included nine doubles. Legred also scored 15 runs and was excellent behind the plate according to BEA head coach Todd Schmidtke.

“He is a very dedicated ballplayer and has worked very hard to get better each day,” Schmidtke said.

Two other BEA seniors, Chris Sanders and Jesus Quintero, were also recognized for their efforts as they received Big South Conference honorable mention. Sanders batted .357 and scored 12 runs for the Buccaneers while Quintero batted .290, drove in 13 runs, and scored seven runs of his own. Coach Schmidtke was very appreciative of the contributions of his senior infielders.

“Chris worked very hard and was a very good leader. He was a very good second baseman and baserunner,” said Schmidtke. “Jesus was a hard nosed, tough third baseman who made many good plays in the field. He came through with some timely big hits to help us win.”
