BLUE EARTH AREA SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Blue Earth Area, I.S.D.#2860 was held on Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Blue Earth Area District Office, Blue Earth, MN.

Present were School Board members: F. Bly, T. Cahill, M. Eckhardt, D. Fellows, S.Becker

Absent: V.Hanson, J. Haugh

Also attending were Supt. Brandsoy, members of the press, staff and public.

The meeting was called to order at 6:31 p.m. by Chairperson Bly. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

On a Fellows/Cahill motion the board approved the amended agenda. Unanimous approval.

Public Input: none.

On an Eckhardt/Becker motion the board approved the minutes of the February 9, 2009 regular board meeting. Unanimous approval.

On a Cahill/Fellows motion, seven transfers/wires and payment of bills in the amount of $1,128,340.20 were approved. Unanimous approval.

Superintendent Brandsoy gave his report, including Legislative updates handouts. Superintendent Brandsoy reported that March is Music in Our Schools Month. Projected enrollment for 2009-2010 school year were presented. Member Eckhardt reported on D.L.T. meeting held on March 11, 2009.

Principal’s Eustice and McGuire gave reports to the board. Dar Holmseth provided a Community Education update to the board. McGuire also reported to the board on Blue Earth Area Spring Assessments taking place and the No Child Left Behind Improvement Plan Implementation. Handouts were given with these reports.

Action Items:

On an Eckhardt/Cahill motion, the Indoor Quality Management Plan was approved. Unanimous approval.

On a Becker/Fellows motion, the Health and Safety Program updates were approved. Unanimous approval.

On a Cahill/Eckhardt motion, the Spring Coaching Contracts were approved. Unanimous approval.

Unanimous approval.

On a Becker/Eckhardt motion, the board approved the Non-Certified Seniority Listing as presented.

Unanimous approval.

Member Cahill introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: (Uniform District Certification) I certify that no policy of the Local Board of Education or administration of Blue Earth Area Schools prevents, or otherwise denies, participation in constitutionally protected prayer in public elementary and secondary schools as detailed in Section 9524 of P.L. 107-110, No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Becker and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof-Fellows, Eckhardt, Bly, Cahill, Becker. The following voted against: none. Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.

On a Fellows/Eckhardt motion, the board approved hiring Kelli Rasmussen, Winnebago Special Education Paraprofessional and Debra Soria, Middle School Special Education Paraprofessional. Unanimous approval.

On a Cahill/Eckhardt motion, the board approved a Lane Change for Cathy Bell from BA to BA+15. Unanimous approval.

On a Becker/Fellows motion, the board approved the resignation of Melissa King, High School Secretary and Kathy Wiederholt, Media Aide. Unanimous approval.

On a Fellows/Cahill motion, the board adjourned at 7:17 p.m. Unanimous approval.
