PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
On behalf of Blue Earth City Township, Faribault County Department of Public Works is seeking input regarding the proposed removal and replacement of the concrete bridge located on 385th Avenue 1.0 miles south of CSAH 52. This bridge is designated as Bridge No. 3130 in the Minnesota Department of Transportation Inventory.
The bridge is eligible to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places because it is an example of a longer span Minnesota Highway Department standardized plan for this type of concrete bridge. As part of obtaining a US Army Corps of Engineers permit to work in Coon Creek during the bridge replacement, coordination with the Minnesota Historic Preservation Office (MNHPO) was conducted. The possible demolition of the bridge is being considered an “adverse effect”.
The Township and County are proposing to replace this bridge that was originally designed for 1920 era traffic demands. Two significant reasons for the planned bridge replacement are: improved safety at this crossing and elimination of the load posting restrictions. The new bridge will be wider and much more capable of accommodating modern and current traffic demands at this crossing of Coon Creek.
Public comment is being sought by Faribault County Department of Public Works regarding social, environmental, and economic impacts of the proposed bridge replacement. Although not yet finalized with MNHPO, it is expected that mitigation for removal of Bridge No. 3130 will include permanent documentation of this bridge including photographs.
