Blue Earth Area School Board Minutes September 14th, 2020

A Regular Board Meeting of the Board of Education of Blue Earth Area, I.S.D. #2860 was held on Monday September 13th, 2020 6:00pm. Conducted in person by telephone OR other Electronic means PURSUANT TO MINN. STAT. $ 13D.021 .

As a result of the peacetime emergency declared by the Governor of the State of Minnesota in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Superintendent of the School District has determined that it is feasible to hold in person meetings with proper social distancing, or meetings could be conducted by alternative means (teleconference or video-teleconference) from remote locations. Members of the public interested in monitoring the work session from a remote location made use of the following link: www.facebook.com?ISD2860 .

Board Members were all present in person with Superintendent M. Fletcher for the regular board meeting at the meeting location: Blue Earth Area High School, Media Center 1125 N. Grove St., Blue Earth, MN 56013.

Members present: S. Hauskins, S. Beyer, K. Zierke, J. Eckles, S. Rosenau, S. Benz, F. Bly.

Call to Order: Chairperson Benz called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm.

Approve Agenda: On Beyer/Zierke Motion. Approved 7-0 Vote.

Public Input: None

Approved Minutes: On Bly/Rosenau Motion. Approved 7-0 Vote.

Approved Payment of Bills and Wire Transfers: On Beyer/Hauskins Motion. Approved 7-0 Vote.

District Reports: None

Chairperson’s Report: MSBA Summer Session.

Superintendent’s Report:

A. Review start of school year 8-12 Hybrid and K-7 in person

B. Scheduling Committee met during work shop week, working towards developing a seven-period day.

C. Operating Levy Launch of the BEA Excellence website.

D. Lunch Program USDA free breakfast and lunch to all K-12 students, until the end of the calendar year or the funds are gone.

E. County Case Rate Reported last Thursday at 13.67, decrease in cases will support opening k-12 all in person on September 21st.

Committee Reports: QComp- Report Completed

DLT Met Sept 9th talked about levy, and Move This World.

Principal Reports: Dressler Instructional update, streamlining processes, working on routines. Praised hard work of staff.

Shaffer NWEA testing Preparing teachers and students for Move This World, proud of students and how they’ve adapted to all new protocols.

Norman Cross Country and Tennis Sessions Middle School Volleyball and Football practices. MSHL Fee increase

Action Items:

Approve Proposed Levy: On a Zierke Motion, Seconded by Beyer. Board approved on 7-0 Vote.

Truth and Taxation Meeting will be held December 14th, 2020 at 6 pm, location Blue Earth Area High School, Media Center 1125 N Grove St., Blue Earth, MN 56013.

Approve 2020-2021 Literacy Plan: On a Eckles Motion, Seconded by Bly. Board approved on 7-0 Vote.

Approve 2020-21 Handbooks: On a Beyer Motion, Seconded by Hauskins. Board approved on 7- 0 Vote.

Approve Final Policy 808 Covid 19 Face Coverings: On a Bly Motion, Seconded by Eckles. Board approved on 7-0 Vote.

Approve 2020 Fall Coaches: On a Beyer Motion, Seconded by Rosenau. Board approved on a 7-0 Vote.

Personnel:

Approve Resignations: Leann Hendrickson, Vonda Schlie, Daja Watson, Megan Asmus. On a Beyer Motion, Seconded by Zierke. Board approved Resignations on 7-0 Vote.

Approve Hires: Scott Skogen, Susan Farrow, Katie Kaluza, Kiesha Howard, Autumn Marlett, LeAnn Boettcher, Samuel Lee, Arika Ziegler, Stacy Haase. On a Bly Motion, Seconded by Beyer. Board approved Hires on 7-0 Vote.

Approve Lane Changes: Maleah Pedersen, Paul Johnson, Ty Sturtz. On a Hauskins Motion, Seconded by Zierke. Board approved Lane Changes on 7-0 Vote.

Approve Leaves: Sharla Goodrich, Konny Wolf. On a Beyer Motion, Seconded by Eckles. Board approved leaves on 7-0 Vote.

Approve Memorandum of Agreement for Coaches/Advisors Salaries: On a Beyer Motion, Seconded by Rosenau. Board approved MOU on 7-0 Vote.

Adjourn Meeting at 6:57 pm, On a Beyer Motion, Seconded by Eckles. Board approved on 7-0 vote.
