• The Project consists of the interior renovation of the entire main level of an existing bank building to be converted to a new City Hall for the City of Blue Earth. The basement will be used for mechanical and storage space only, with the scope of work limited to mechanical modifications. Level 1 is approximately 4,900 square feet and includes offices, council chambers, and various support spaces. Exterior scope of work is limited to paint and one new exterior window. Also, included is an alternate for renovation of the existing entrance concrete ramp and finishes located at the Senior Center Building, 118 w 7th St, Blue Earth, MN 56013.

MAY 13, 2024

A Special Board Meeting of the Board of Education of Blue Earth Area, I.S.D. #2860 was held on Monday, May 13th, 2024 at 5:30 pm. Members of the public interested in monitoring the Board Meeting from a remote location made use of the following link: https://www.facebook.com/ISD2860

Board Members were present in person with Superintendent M. Fletcher for the regular board meeting at the meeting location: Blue Earth Area High School Media Center 1125 Highway 169 N Blue Earth, MN 56013. 

Members present: S. Hauskins, S. Beyer, J. Eckles, L. Mensing, M. Franta, K. Zierke and Student Rep. R. Machacek. Member T. Armon arrived at 5:56 pm. Absent: Student Rep. L. Becker

A. Morgan Franklin/Sara Albright – Franklin and Albright gave and update on the Art Department. Albright shared high school results and photos from a recent art show. Franklin gave an update on Elementary Art and various skills and mediums that they used throughout the year.

B. Sara Albright & Frankie – Therapy Dog – Albright gave an update on Frankie’s adventures and some of the key social emotional learning lessons Frankie has participated in.

VIII. Chairperson’s Report:

A. Diplomas/Graduation – Member Mensing and Member Armon will be handing out diplomas at graduation.

B. May 1st Board Work Session – Hauskins recapped the May 1st work session regarding the potential K7 building. Charlotte Nienhaus from ISG explained the process of submitting an overview of the project that gets submitted to the Minnesota Department of Education.

IX. Superintendent’s Report:

A. End of Year Dates and Events:

1. Wednesday, May 22nd from 4-6 pm Retirement and Teacher of the Year Celebration at Putnam Park.

2. Tuesday, June 4th – Last student day for K11 students.

3. Sunday, June 2nd at 2 pm – Commencement at the HS

4. Wednesday, June 5th and Thursday, June 6th – An all staff breakfast and presentation will be held and end of year work days for staff.

B. Legislative Update: Fletcher gave an update on the end of the recent legislative session.

C. Staffing Update: K7 building staffing updates were provided as well as at the High School. Representative Machacek gave a brief review of a student advisory group meeting that was held regarding sharing input about food service and menu suggestions.

X. Committee Reports:

A. Q Comp – Franta gave an update on the Q Comp meeting.

B. BEA Foundation – Beyer gave an update from the Foundation meeting where they discussed fundraising ideas and the funding requests. Next meeting is in September 2024.

C. Activities – Beyer discussed the April 2024 meeting held and shared the number of participants in various activities.

XI. Principal’s Reports:

Dressler – Dressler shared the list of end of year events. Also, here are various safety drills that need to be completed before the EOY. Staff is working on recapping and recommending changes/updates to PLC and/or PD sessions.

Shaffer – A recap was shared of the many events that will be occurring before the end of the year at the High School, one of them being the Kiwanis Awards Banquet and a special thank you to all of the donors who give scholarships to students. Also, The Spring Carnival is being held on May 29th at the High School from 4-7 pm. Accolades were given to Brenda Millmann for her efforts to organize the Carnival.

Sturz – Recaps were given on the recent 5th grade that did their service day in the community as well as many fun activities and field trips planned for most of the elementary classrooms.

XII. Curriculum/Instruction Director Report: Schmidt shared that all state testing is completed. ACT tests were wrapped up on May 1st with 63 students taking the test. She also gave a READ Act update.
