Buc boys second at indoor pentangular
A well balanced team effort propelled the Blue Earth Area boys track and field team a second-place finish at the indoor pentangular March 27 at Minnesota State University in Mankato.
The Bucs were paced by the record-setting 4 x 200-meter relay team.
Garrett Mensing (24.5), John Franta (25.0), Derek Olinger (24.2), and Nate Carr (23.8) were clocked in 1:36.8 to take first. Their time smashed the mark of 1:39.6 set in 2002 by Jason Holtz, Andrew Hervey, Jon McGowen, and Shawn Smith.
Two Bucs cracked the top 10 in the 55-meter dash. Mensing had the second-best time with 6.8, and Franta was clocked at 7.0 to take seventh. The two seniors also slipped onto the Indoor Honor Roll, Mensing at No. 5 and Franta No. 10 .
Taking second in the 4 x 400-meter relay with a time of 3:54.7 was the foursome of Derek Olinger (54.9), Jonathan Leitzke (56.6), Daniel Plocker (61.5), and Eduardo Vega (61.2).
Vega (2:25.9) helped his 4 x 800 squad — Jake Wagner (2:33.2), Brandon Christians (2:34.6), and Travis Hagedorn (2:41.9) — take fourth with a time of 10:15.9.
In the 800-meter run, Vega chased down sixth place with a 2:30.1.
Jake Zebedee was the top Buc in the 400-meter dash, claiming seventh with a personal record of 61.5.
Carr was able to finish in the top three in two individual events.
The Buc sophomore’s time of 8.6 in the 55-meter high hurdles gave him the win and put him No. 5 on the indoor honor roll. He was able to garner third in the 200-meter dash with a 24.7. That time also put him No. 2 all-time indoors.
Senior Jonathan Leitzke led from the start in the 1,600-meter run to post a 4:53.7 and earn the No. 4 all-time spot on the indoor honor roll.
Fellow senior Mark Bartley also raced to an indoor-best time of 10:49.9 to claim second in the 3,200-meter run. He now has the No. 3 position all-time indoors.
Robin Ulrich soared over 6-0 in the high jump to post a first-place win and move to No. 5 all-time indoors, while Carr jumped over 5-8 to capture third.
In the pole vault, Zach Tvedten sprung over 10-0 for third place and put him No. 4 on the indoor rankngs for BEA. Travis Hagedorn vaulted 8-6 to grab fourth place and enter the honor roll at No. 7, and Zebedee flung over 7-0 to finish eighth.
Senior Derek Olinger paced the long jumpers soaring 18-1 1/2 to take fifth and placed him No. 9 on the honor roll indoors. Claiming seventh in the triple jump was freshman Daniel Plocker with a mark of 34-4.
Junior Jake Lee was able to toss the shot put 40-8 1/2 for third place and place him ninth on the Indoor Honor Roll list.
