Bucs pitch shutout for season opener

Blue Earth Area High School boys baseball team started the season off on the right foot as they shut out the USC Rebels 3-0 on Friday, April 4.

Pitcher Gabe Sturtz got the win, going three innings during which he allowed only one hit.

Garrett Anderson and Corey Liebel also were on the mound for the Buccaneers. Anderson struck out six and walked two in two innings of relief. Liebel struck out three in his two innings of relief pitching.

Anderson led the team on offense, doubling twice as he went two for three at the plate.

Garrett Mensing also got a hit for the Bucs, and scored a run.

The game was played in Wells. The Bucs were set to open the South Central Conference with a game last Thursday in Waseca, weather permitting.

Their home opener is set for Tuesday when they host St. James. On Thursday they will be travelling to St. Peter for a game.
