Buc girls blast past Cardinals 9 to 1
The Blue Earth Area girls softball team got a lot of hitting against the Fairmont Cardinals last Monday night, and won the game 9-1 on their home field.
“It was a good win for us,” Coach Bob Hanson said. “Our batters finally came through with the big hits with runners on the bases. That has been our problem all season, not advancing the runners.”
This time the Bucs exploded for 12 hits and that led to nine runs.
Alicia Rorman, Cali Rauenhorst and Shelly Pearson were all 2 for 4 from the batters box. Kaci Hyland was 2 for 3 and had three RBI for the Bucs.
It was a three run triple from Kirsten Johansen in the fourth inning that really opened up the game, and the Bucs enjoyed a comfortable lead for most of the game.
Pitcher Danika Stindtman was able to shut down the Fairmont hitters and got the win. She got eight strikeouts during the game and allowed just five hits that were scattered through all the innings. She walked just two batters.
The Bucs record went to 4-8 on the season and they are 1-8 in the South Central Conference.
The Bucs were scheduled to be in Fairmont this past Friday for another match up with the Cardinals. The game on Tuesday was a weather related make up game, while Friday’s was a regularly scheduled one.
