Softball team wins one, loses one at JCC Tourney
The Buccaneer girls softball team won one game and lost one at the Jackson County Central softball tourney on Saturday, May 10.
The girls lost their first game to Big Lake by a score of 10-4, then rebounded and won the second game against Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove by a score of 12-0.
In the first game the Bucs led 4-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning. They had scored three runs in the first inning and another one in the top of the fourth. Big Lake came back with four in the bottom of the fourth and six runs on two homers in the sixth.
Big Lake is one of the top teams in the state, Coach Bob Hanson said. “We felt good taking a lead on them early in the game, and showing we could play against a really good team,” he said.
Alicia Rorman led the Bucs going 2 for 4. Kaci Hyland was 1 for 4 with an RBI double, and Brittany Boettcher was 2 for 3.
Pitcher Danika Stindtman gave up 14 hits and three walks and took the loss.
The second game was shortened by rain but the Bucs got seven hits and 12 runs for the big win.
Brittany Boettcher was 1 for 4 and had two RBI.
Freshman Maddie McDonald pitched the game and got the win.
“I think the loss to Big Lake actually helped us and the team felt confident in the next game,” Coach Hanson said.
The Bucs start post-season section play this week on Tuesday.
