BEA tennis team wins first match, loses second at section tourney
The Blue Earth Area boys tennis team won their quarter-final match at the section tournament but then lost in the semi-finals.
The Bucs downed Mound-Westonka in the quarter-finals by a score of 4-3 on May 20. They then lost in the semi-finals to St. James by the same 4-3 score on May 22.
Against Mound-Wes-tonka, second singles Riley Holmseth was the only singles winner for the Bucs, getting a 6-7 (6-8), 6-0, 6-0 victory.
All three doubles teams won. First doubles Logan Becker and Dalton Moore won 6-2, 6-0, second doubles Garrett Passer and Drake Nimz won 6-1, 6-4, and third doubles Fredi Kneer and Hans Kittleson won 1-6, 6-0, 6-4.
In the match against St. James, all four singles players for BEA lost, while all three doubles teams won.
First doubles Matt Purvis and Logan Becker won 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. Second doubles Dalton Moore and Drake Nimz won 6-4, 6-4. Third doubles Hans Kittleson and Fredi Kneer won 6-3, 6-3.
In the singles, first singles Riley Holmseth lost by scores of 6-0, 6-2. Second singles Aaron Wilhelmi lost 6-2, 7-5. Third singles Garrett Purvis lost 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. Fourth singles Wade Wilhelmi lost 7-5, 6-3.
St. James was seeded first and BEA fourth in the section.
