Softball team bows out of tourney

By Staff | May 27, 2008

The Buccaneer girls softball team played one of their most exciting games of the year, but when it was all over they were on the losing end of the score.

Blue Earth Area lost to Glencoe-Silver Lake 2-1 in 2AA Section Softball last Tuesday night in St. Peter.

It was one more in a string of heartbreak losses that happened all season long.

The Bucs were behind 1-0 when they tied it up 1-1 in the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, however, GSL loaded the bases on an error and some clutch hitting. Their best hitter was up next and hit a long fly ball that scored the winning run.

“Probably the key to the game was in the fifth inning when we missed a bunt sign with two players on base,” Coach Bob Hanson said. “After that there was a passed ball that would have scored a run for us if we would have had a runner at third.”

Coach Hanson said he was pleased with the play overall. “It was a pretty good, close, exciting ball game,” he said.

But it did bring the season to an abrupt end.

The Bucs had three hits, by Alicia Rorman, Kaci Hyland and Mary Johnson. Danika Stindtman pitched the game and gave up just five hits, four walks and struck out four.

“We are going to miss our three seniors next year,” Coach Hanson said. Those three are Kaci Hyland at shortstop, Erin Warner at first base and Brittany Boettcher at third. “They have been great leaders as well as players,” he said.
