Bartley lone State Meet qualifier

By Staff | Jun 9, 2008

Senior Mark Bartley (right) qualified for the State Meet in the 3,200-meter run when he placed second with a time of 10:18.26 at the Section 2A Meet held May 31 in Mankato.

The first time at a Section Meet proved to be a charm for one senior trackster, while the third time for another was again frustrating.

Senior Mark Bartley was the lone Buc to qualify for the State Meet held June 6-7 at Hamline University in St. Paul.

His time of 10:18.26 was good enough to grabbed second place in the 3,200-meter run.

“That was a nice accomplishment for him. He had never run in a section meet before,” says Head Coach Tom Plocker. “It’s a real neat honor for him.”

Fellow senior Jonathan Leitzke just missed qualifying for State by one position for the third straight year.

The Buc 800-meter runner placed third with a 2:00.11. His time was barely above the State-qualifying standard of 1:59.13.

Team scores: Glencoe-Silver Lake 104.5, Le Sueur-Henderson 102, Unites South Central/Alden Conger 83, St. James 81, Fairmont 77 … BEA 59.5 (7th out of 22 teams).
