The Bucs got off to a good start in the gym at Lake Crystal last Monday. They swept the Knights in three games, and were perfect at the serving line.

The Blue Earth Area girls volleyball team got the season off to a fine start when they swept Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial last week Tuesday.

The Bucs crushed the Knights in game one, 25-7. Game two the BEA girls had to come from behind to win 25-20, and then had a thrilling close victory in the third, 26-24.

It was their serving that set up each win, with a perfect night for the team from the line.

Game one looked easy for the Bucs as they had little trouble controlling the Knights and cruising to a win.

In game two it was a different story. After the game was tied at 11-all, LCWM started gaining momentum and built up a 20-15 lead.

That is when Danika Stindtman stepped up to the service line. She led the Bucs on a 10-0 point run and a huge win of 25-20.

Stindtman was a perfect 20 of 20 serving with two aces. Kate Hassing was also perfect going 17 of 17, and Morgan Dickman was 14 of 14 with four aces.

The Bucs looked as though they would end the night quickly in game three as they got out to an early 7-1 lead. LCWM came back to tie it at 9-9 shortly after, however, and the battle was on.

The Knights came back each and every time the Bucs would build a little lead.

BEA was up 12-9, but fell behind when LCWM went on a 4-0 run going ahead 13-12, their only lead of the game.

The Bucs kept a two points by the BEA squad and lead for a while, but the Knights knotted the score at 21, and then again at 24 apiece.

Two more points by the BEA squad and the game, and match, was over.

Stindtman hit 12 kills in the match, while Hassing added six more and Sydney Ristau five.

Kirsten Johansen had 19 set assists for the Bucs, who start the season with a 1-0 record. Jenny Smith and Hassing each had eight digs from the back row.

The Bucs will travel to New Ulm on Thursday this week. They will also be at the Luverne Invitational Tournament on Saturday.
