Girls 6th, boys 14th at Redbird Invite

More than 30 girls and 30 boys cross country teams took part at the Redbird Invite mega meet held Thursday in Montgomery. Mandy Warmka and Rylee Wagner lead a group of Buc runners during the 4,000-meter race. The girls were able to nab sixth place, while the boys finished 14th overall.

Blue Earth Area girls cross country team finished in the Top 10 at the 34-team Redbird Invite mega meet held Thursday in Montgomery.

The Class A No. 10-ranked Bucs tallied 180 points, good enough for sixth place.

Class A No. 6-ranked Fairmont finished seventh with 254 points.

Taking first place was Shakopee with 85 points, followed by Class AA No. 4-ranked Prior Lake (98), New Prague (140), Mound Westonka (145) and Class AA No. 11-ranked Waseca (171).

The Bucs had five runners all within one minute of each other.

Leading the way was freshman Marissia Hagedorn with a time of 16:24.3 to take 20th in the 4,000-meter race. Fellow freshman Courtney Grandgenett was 28th with a 16:35.7.

The next BEA runner to cross the finish line was sophomore LaNay Walker in 16:46.5 to place 36th.

Junior Mandy Warmka’s time of 17:06.9 earned her the 51st spot.

The final Buc runner to count in the team scoring was Rylee Wagner. The sophomore was clocked in 17:13.5 and finished 55th.

Senior Miranda Murray’s time of 17:32.1 put her 69th overall, while sophomore Lindsey Ankeny was 100th in 17:50.5.

On the boys side, BEA took 14th place with 389 points.

Winning the meet was Mound Westonka with 124 points, followed by Farmington (130), The Blake School (142), Jackson County Central (144) and Waseca (192) to round out the Top 5.

The Fairmont Cardinals grabbed seventh place with 221 points, just two points behind sixth place New Prague.

The first five runners to cross the finish line for the Bucs were all sophomores.

Riley Holmseth finished 56th in 18:43.3, followed by Wade Wilhelmi with 18:48 to take 60th.

Aaron Wilhelmi covered the 5,000-meter course in 19:09 for 79th and Brandon Christians time of 19:23.9 was 103rd overall.

Travis Hagedorn was 107th with a 19:28.6, while senior Garrett Passer was 133rd in 20:01.8 and freshman Jake Zebedee took 157th with a time of 20:58.
