Girls take 1st at Maple River, boys 3rd

The Blue Earth Area girls cross country team captured the team title at the Maple Invite held Thursday, while the boys took third.

The Bucs tallied 29 points, followed by second-place Medford (54), USC/AC (72), Madelia-Truman 102, LSH 109, NRHEG 144, and eight other teams incomplete.

BEA runners again displayed its “pack running” having five finish in the Top 11 and about 30 seconds apart.

Marissia Hagedorn crossed the finish line in 17:01 (5-5-5), with teammate Courtney Grandgenett close behind in 17:06 (6-6-6).

LaNay Walker covered the 4,000-meter course in 17:12 (7-7-7), while Rylee Wagner cracked the Top 10 with 17:35 (12-8-10).

Mandy Warmka’s 17:39 was the 11th best overall times (11-11-11). Lindsey Ankeny was clocked in 18:21 to grab 17th (19-16-17) and Miranda Murray took 29th in 19:23 (22-28-29).

Mackenzie Determan — 16:33 (4th).

Kelly Aukes — 16:36 (5th).

Niki Welder — 16:44 (6th).

Amanda Pecholt — 19:20 (25th).

Sierra Halvorson — 7:11 (4th).

Haley Welker — 8:03 (13th).

The Buc boys were third with 94 points. LeSueur-Henderson nabbed the team title with 42 points, 10 points less than USC/AC.

Sibley East was fourth (120), followed by MVL/New Ulm (138), Maple River (163), Medford (160), Madelia-Truman (178), WEM (209), and five other teams incomplete.

Wade Wilhelmi’s 18:24 put him 13th overall (13-13-13) and Eduardo Vega was 18th in 18:46 (31-20-18), just two seconds ahead of Riley Holmseth’s 19th-place performance of18:48 (39-27-19).

Aaron Wilhelmi covered the 5,000 meters in 19:09 for 26th (26-26-26) and teammate Travis Hagedorn posted a 19:05 for 29th (32-28-29), just edging out Brandon Christians with 19:06 (33-29-30). Garrett Passer nearly broke the 20-minute mark — 20:01 — to grab 38th (49-41-38).
