By Staff | Oct 6, 2008

With a total of 68 points scored in the Blue Earth Area vs. Waseca football game last week, fans saw a lot of action.

Unfortunately for BEA fans, the Bucs came out on the short end of the stick and lost 41-27 to the Bluejays.

The game was close most of the way. In fact, both teams scored once in each of the first two quarters, and the game was tied mid-way through the third quarter.

BEA scored first when Quarterback Garrett Anderson ran in from the one-yard line. The kick failed, but the Bucs had the first – and only – lead of the game, 6-0.

Waseca also got a score in the first quarter, on a 50-yard run. They made their point-after-touchdown (PAT) kick and led 7-6 after the first quarter.

In the second period, Waseca scored first on a five-yard run and again made the PAT kick. That gave the Bluejays a 14-6 lead.

The Bucs came back before halftime and scored a touchdown of their own. It came on a pass interception by Joe Franta who ran it 36 yards for the score.

The Bucs failed to convert on the PAT and it was 14-12 in Waseca’s favor at the half.

The third quarter was wild with Waseca scoring three times, and the Bucs twice.

The Bluejays were first with a 23 yard-run and a kick for PAT. The score was 21-12.

BEA roared back with a 63-yard touchdown pass from Anderson to Dylan O’Rourke. This time Justin Duelge’s kick was good and the score became close at 21-19.

Another Waseca touchdown – with a failed PAT try – made the score 27-19.

The Bucs were not done and scored on a two-yard Anderson run. This time they went for the two-point conversion and got it on a pass from Anderson to Collin Nienhaus.

The Bucs had tied up the score at 27-27. Unfortunately, it was to be their last score.

Waseca scored two more touchdowns, one in the third quarter on a 77-yard pass, and another one in the fourth on a 37-yard fumble recovery.

The kicks were good after both Bluejay TDs and the final score became 41-27.

The Bucs had 291 yards of total offense.

Anderson was 12 of 25 passing for 159 yards and the one TD. Dalton Hurn was 4 of 7 passing for 19 yards.

BEA had 113 yards rushing on 28 carries. They were led by Anderson who got 66 yards on 16 carries. Franta added 48 yards on 10 carries.

The Bluejays had 192 yards rushing and 158 passing.

Leading the way on defense for the Bucs was Jake Lee who had 12 tackles. Daniel Eckhardt added 10 and Sinjin Bell nine.

The loss dropped BEA’s record to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the South Central Conference.

This week the Bucs host St. James on Friday.
