Buc netters end team season at Section play

The Blue Earth Area girls tennis team lost to St. Peter in the quarter-finals of the Section Tournament last Monday.

The No. 8 seeded Bucs fell 6-1 to the No. 1 seeded Saints.

Coach Terry Barnes had to do some shuffling of players when two of his team members, Annika Johnson and Eli Johnson, were ill and could not compete.

Barnes put Emily Slama and Jackie Klinkner together at No. 1 doubles and the two defeated Lindsey Bitter and Taylor Volk 6-1, 6-4 for BEA’s only win.

Slama and Klinkner have played at No. 1 and 2 singles most of the season. However, the two could pair up again in doubles for the the Section Individual Tournament.

Olivia Skaare and Jessica Skaare, at No. 2 doubles, battled Bethann Cross and Megan Wenner of St. Peter, but lost 6-3, 6-1.

No. 3 doubles Mackenzie Lein and Sam Hogstad lost a close match against Calleigh Carlson and Rachael Thompson 6-2, 7-6 (4).

The Bucs lineup of singles players all were defeated.

Abby Nimz. at No. 1 singles fell to Katie Huber 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 singles Blaire Zierke lost 6-0, 6-0, to Tina Aarsvold.

Also losing 6-0, 6-0, were No. 3 singles player Alicia Johnson, who fell to Sidney Dirks and No. 4 singles Autumn Drake, defeated by Katie Hanson.

The Bucs ended their 2008 season with a 6-10 record, 0-5 in the South Central Conference.

Team members will enter Section Individual Tourna-ment competition this week.
