Tennis season ends with Section Individual Tourney
Six Blue Earth Area girls tennis team members competed in the individual Section Tournament last week.
Two singles players and two doubles teams from the Bucs played in the tourney on Monday, Oct. 13.
Jackie Klinkner and Emily Slama were seeded fifth in the tourney in doubles.
In their first match on Monday, the duo played Fairmont’s No. 1 and 2 players, Kaitlin Bloomgren and Kelly Bloomgren.
The Bucs won by scores of 6-1, 6-2.
In their second match, Klinkner and Slama played Tina Aarsvold and Taylor Volk of St. Peter. The BEA pair lost in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The other doubles team of Jessica Skaare and Olivia Skaare also won their first match, and lost the second.
First they played Megan Wenner and Bethann Cross of St. Peter. The Buc twosome won 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), (10-7).
Because it was a pig-tail game, the match went to a super tie-breaker instead of a third set.
The win sent the Skaare cousins to a match against Sibley East’s No. 1 and 2 players, Anna Dreismane and Kayla Trocke.
The Bucs lost 6-0, 6-1 to the Sibley East duo, who went on to win the Section doubles title.
The singles players did not fare as well. Both were unseeded, which meant they had to play a pig-tail game to get into the bracket.
Mackenzie Lein played against Fairmont’s Sydney Ruen and lost 6-1, 6-1.
Samantha Hogstad played LeSueur-Henderson’s Chelsea Simek and lost 6-1, 6-4.
