The Blue Earth Area Buc gymnastics team has been on a roll this season. On Saturday, Jan. 10 they added a second place finish at the Fairmont Invitational Meet to their accomplishments.

The Bucs were led by Julia Meyer, who took fifth place in the all-around with a 33.9 score.
She tied for second place on the balance beam, with 8.7. She also tied for fourth in floor exercise with a score of 8.3. Her 8.3 on the uneven parallel bars was good for fifth place.
Blaire Zierke scored 32.15 in all-around, good for seventh place, while Cassie Thompson was in 10th place with a 30.8.
Overall the Bucs scored 34.20 on the vault, 31.05 on the bars, 30.675 on the beam, and 31.225 on floor to get their team total.
Coach Sandy Oswald says the girls have been impressive all year.
“Beating New Ulm was a big boost for our girls,” Oswald says. “If we can continue at this pace we have an excellent chance to take the South Central Conference championship. And that has never, ever happened before.”
New Ulm has been the perennial conference champs. Even though the Bucs have twice gone to the State by winning their Section, New Ulm won the conference those years.
“Our scores are good enough to do it – we just have to stay healthy and avoid injury,” she says.
The Bucs face St. Peter this Thursday, and host St. James the following Thursday. Both are important conference battles.
“We beat St. James earlier, we just need to do it again for the conference record,” Oswald says.
