Bucs down St. Peter, 59-35
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls basketball team had little trouble with the St. Peter Saints winning 59-35 on the road Jan. 9.
“We played one of our better games,” says Head Coach Al Cue. “Defensively, we were solid throughout the game.”
The Bucs were paced by Morgan Dickman and Kate Hassing, who had 13 points each.
The Bucs hit on 4 of 7 3-pointers.
Dickman was a perfect 2 of 2 from long range, while teammate Ashley Olson was 2 of 3 from beyond the arc. Olson wound up with eight points.
St. Peter missed all six of their 3-point shot attempts.
The Bucs had a comfortable 9-point lead at the half, 30-21. They scored another 29 points in the second half, while holding the Saints to just 14.
Jackie Klinkner added seven points for the Bucs, and also led in rebounds with seven. Hassing grabbed six boards. Rebounds were fairly close between the two teams, with the Bucs holding a slight 29-24 advantage in that category.
The BEA girls also had a comfortable lead in free-throws made. The Bucs hit 11 of 16, while the Saints made 7 of 13.
“We did a much better job of finishing shots, especially in the second half,” Cue says.
With the win, the Bucs advanced their season record to 5-6 overall, and 3-2 in the South Central Conference.
This week the Bucs travel to New Ulm on Thursday, and host Kasson-Mantorville on Saturday.
