By Staff | Jan 26, 2009

The Buccaneer gymnastics team missed two meets last week, due to weather.

They finally got a chance to compete last Tuesday, when they hosted a powerful Martin County West team. The Bucs lost to the Mavericks 142.45 to 128.275.

MCW swept the top four places in four of the five events; vault, beam, floor and all-around.

Only in the uneven parallel bars did the Bucs have two members tie for third place. Both Julia Meyer and LaNay Walker scored 8.4 for the third place medal.

The Bucs scored 34.25 on the vault, 32.80 on the bars, 28.75 on the beam and 32.475 in floor exercise.

Meyer led the Bucs, scoring 33.025 in all-around. Besides her score in the bars, Meyer had an 8.7 on the vault, 7.45 on the beam and an 8.475 in floor.

Blaire Zierke had a 32.40 in all-around, and Cassie Thompson a 30.95.

Mattie Steen led the Mavericks with 36.875. Kristeena Patsche scored 36.675.

A meet scheduled for Jan.15 against Waseca, and a trip to the MCW Invitational on Jan. 17, were both postponed due to weather.

This week the Bucs are set to go to NRHEG on Tuesday, and host St. James on Thursday.
