Buccaneers slay Giants, 49-45
Ashley Olson scored 19 points for the Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls basketball team on Saturday, Feb. 21, leading them to a 49-45 victory over LeSueur-Henderson.
Olson hit three 3-pointers, as well as going 6 for 9 from the free throw line.
Jackie Klinkner added nine points, as well as a team leading seven rebounds.
Kate Hassing and Meghan Mittelstadt each contributed six points in the win.
For Mittelstadt, it was her first game since an injury which sidelined her most of the season. Her six points came off two 3-pointers.
“Overall, this was a solid game for us,” says Coach Al Cue. “A good win against a quality opponent.”
The Bucs were 10 of 32 shooting from inside the arc, and 5 of 9 from outside. As a team they were 14 for 22 from the charity stripe.
LSH meanwhile was 14 of 33 for 2-point shooting, and 2 of 9 for 3-pointers. They made 11 of the 16 free throws they tried.
The Bucs were out-rebounded 25-20 by the Giants.
“We had a few mental lapses defensively in the first half, but really played great ‘D’ the entire second half, holding them to just 17 points,” Cue says.
This week the Bucs start post-season play in the sub-section tournament.
