Zierke, Meyer qualify for State

Two Blue Earth Area gymnasts placed in the top four at the Section Meet at Waseca and advanced to the State Meet.
Julia Meyer took third in the balance beam competition with a score of 9.025. Blaire Zierke wound up in fourth place in all-around, scoring 34.650.
The top four scorers in each event advance on to state. Zierke and Meyer were scheduled to compete this past Friday, and details will be in next week’s Register.
The Bucs took second as a team, out of the nine teams in the section. However, only the top team moves on to state.
BEA had a solid 134.8 for second, but New Prague scored 143.625 for top honors.
Waconia was in third with 133.475, New Ulm fourth at 132.1
The top six finishers in each event receive a medal, and the Bucs were awarded five of them, in addition to the second place team trophy.
Besides her third place on the beam, Meyer also took fifth in all-around, behind Zierke, with a 34.575.
Zierke got a sixth place medal in floor exercise, besides her fourth in all-around. She scored an 8.975, which actually tied her with another gymnast. Zierke got the edge in the tie-breaker.Cassie Thompson took home a sixth-place medal in the vault, scoring an 8.850.
In the Top 10 list for each event, Zierke scored 8.7 good for seventh on the beam, and an 8.35 on the uneven parallel bars, for 10th. Meyer was ninth in the event with 8.375.
The Bucs, as a team, scored 34.775 on the vault (Thompson 8.85, Zierke 8.625, Samantha Hougen and Bridget Zierke both 8.650);
32.5 on the uneven parallel bars (Meyer 8.375, Zierke 8.350, Thompson 7.925, LaNay Walker 7.6);
34.45 on the balance beam (Meyer 9.025, Zierke 8.7, Thompson 8.125, Mari-ssia Hagedorn 7.6);
34.075 on floor exercise (Zierke 8.975, Meyer 8.575, Thompson 8.35, Lauren Thompson 8.175).
