By Staff | Apr 13, 2009

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers swept the singles portion of their opening tennis match of the season, and that was enough to give them a 4-3 win over Redwood Valley.

The Cardinals won all three doubles contests in the match, which was played Thursday in Blue Earth.

Matt Purvis, playing at No. 1 singles, got things going for the home team with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Kurt Larson.

Garrett Passer won at No. 2 singles over Nick Schmidt, 6-1, 6-1. Riley Holmseth won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, over Redwood Valley’s Brandon Arentson. Aaron Wilhelmi completed the sweep with a win at No. 4 singles, defeating Aaron Jordon 6-0, 6-0.

All three of the doubles matches were close, but the Bucs could not pull them out. Justin Duelge and Wade Wilhelmi fell 7-5, 7-5 to Pat Raddatz and Shane Gewerth at the No. 1 spot.

Hans Kittleson and Colin Surrett, at No. 2 doubles, lost to Dave Houghton and Jared Arentson, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). At No. 3 doubles, Alex Cleppe and Harry Cadilek were defeated 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) by Nick Jansenn and Anthony Dunne.

The Bucs return to action on Friday when they travel to Luverne.
