By Staff | Apr 20, 2009

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer tennis team extended their season record to 2-0 with a big win over Owatonna last Tuesday afternoon.

The Bucs won 4-3 in a close, hard-fought match. BEA had three of their four singles players record wins, and one doubles team claimed victory to clinch the win.

“Riley Hol-mseth and Aaron Wil-helmi had great matches to lead us,” Coach Colby Swan-son said.

Holmseth, at No. 2 singles, defeated Owatonna’s Dan Borgertpoepping, 6-2, 6-3. Wilhelmi, at No. 3 singles, beat Joe Dingmann 6-4, 6-3.

At No. 4 singles, Wade Wilhelmi also notched a win for the Bucs, defeating Ty Haley 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 1 singles, Garrett Passer lost 6-0, 6-0 to Eric Zishka.

Swanson says Zishka has already beat the 2008 Class A singles champ from Lourdes earlier this year.

At No. 2 singles, Hans Kittleson and Colan Surratt defeated Jon Iverson and Ethan Scholl, 6-4, 6-3.

“Surratt and Kittleson are both much improved players this year,” Swanson says. “They took on two seniors from Owatonna at the No. 2 spot.”

At No. 1 doubles, Matt Purvis and Justin Duelge lost 6-2, 6-4 to Noah Elsner and Steven Boutelle of Owatonna.

At No. 3 doubles, the Bucs’ Alex Cleppe and Harry Cadilek lost 6-3, 6-4 to Alex Appel and Ryan Wachoujak.

The Bucs were set to play at Luverne and Mankato West over the weekend. Those results will be in next week’s Register.

This week the Bucs will face Holy Family at Gustavus Adolphus College on Monday. Tuesday they host New Ulm.

Then on Thursday they travel to Fairmont, and Friday head to Albert Lea.
