Tennis team 3-3 last week

The Buccaneer tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win over the Luverne Cardinals on Friday, April 17.

The Bucs only loss came at No. 3 doubles, and that match went to three sets.

No. 1 singles Matthew Purvis defeated Austin Lee 6-2, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Riley Holmseth got a 6-2, 6-0 win over Joel Wahnontka.

Aaron Wilhelmi defeated Michael Graff at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-5, while brother Wade Wilhelmi defeated Joey Vajgrt 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles play, Garrett Passer and Justin Duelge defeated Nick Sandager and Scott Nelson 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot.

Hans Kittleson and Colan Surratt downed Trevor Johnson and Jonny Vajgrt 7-5, 2-6, 6-3, in a close match at the No. 2 doubles spot.

At No. 3 doubles, Alex Cleppe and Harry Cadilek fell to Dustin Deutsch and Austin Stroeh by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The win put BEA’s record at 3-0 for the season.

Bucs lose two at Mankato

The Bucs fell to two teams in tournament play in Mankato last weekend.

They lost to Mankato West 5-2, and also fell 4-3 to Robbinsdale Armstrong 4-3.

Getting wins for BEA against Mankato West were Wade Wilhelmi at No. 4 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Garrett Passer and Justin Duelge.

Against Robbinsdale- Armstrong, No. 3 singles Aaron Wilhelmi and No. 4 singles Wade Wilhelmi both notched victories.

No. 1 doubles team of Garrett Passer and Justin Duelge won again for the Bucs only other win.

Holy Family Catholic 6, BEA 1

The Buccaneer tennis team mustered only one player in the win column on Monday night, when they fell to Holy Family Catholic in a match played indoors at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

Wade Wilhelmi, playing at No. 4 singles, notched the Bucs only win on the night. He defeated Max Henkel 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Matthew Purvis lost 6-0, 6-1 to Sam Puff at No. 1 singles. Riley Holmseth fell 6-1, 6-0 to Taylor Curtis at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Aaron Wilhelmi lost 6-1, 6-3 to Conner Oberle.

At No. 1 doubles, Garrett Passer and Justin Duelge lost to Matt Makis and Ryan Mencken, 6-1, 6-2. No. 2 doubles team of Colan Surratt and Hans Kittleson lost to Remington Riehl and Tyler Smith, 6-2, 6-0. Alex

Cleppe and Taylor Umland lost to Erik Elton and David Forbes, 6-2, 6-3.

The loss put BEA’s season record at 3-3.

BEA 6, New Ulm 1

The Bucs totally dominated the New Ulm Eagles in a home match last Tuesday in Blue Earth.

Matthew Purvis got things going for the Bucs with a win at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3.

At No. 2 singles, Riley Holmseth won 6-4, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Aaron Wilhelmi won by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Wade Wilhelmi completed the sweep at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1.

No, 1 doubles Gaarett Passer and Justin Duelge won easily, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, Colan Surratt and Hans Kittleson won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

No. 3 doubles team of Taylor Umland and Alex Cleppe lost their match 6-3, 6-0.

BEA 4, Fairmont 3

It was a close match in Fairmont on Thursday night, but in the end the BEA Buccaneer tennis team prevailed over the Cards by a score of 4-3.

Matthew Purvis, playing at No. 1 singles, gutted out a long 3-set win after having lost the first set 6-0. He came back from that loss and won the second set 6-4, then took the third 7-6 (9-7) from the Card’s Reid Rosen.

No. 2 singles player Riley Holmseth lost to Paul Miller in a long match also. Scores were 6-2, 6-7 (7-5), 6-4.

At No. 3 singles, Aaron Wilhelmi defeated Dylan VonBank 6-2, 6-2. Wade Wilhelmi beat Josh Vetter at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Garrett Passer and Justin Duelge got the only BEA win in doubles. They beat Tony Hoong and Spencer Seibert at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (7-0), 6-4.

At No. 2 doubles, Colan Surratt and Hans Kittleson fell to Garrett Cochran and Spencer King 6-7 (7-3), 6-4, 6-1. At No. 3 doubles, Alex Cleppe and Taylor Umland lost to Taylor Burgraff and Shawn Patterson 6-3, 6-0.

The win propels the Bucs to a 5-3 season record, 2-0 in the South Central Conference.

They host Waseca Tuesday night this week.
