Skaare takes 3rd at Fairmont

The Buccaneer girls golf team struggled a bit on Saturday, May 9, at the Fairmont Invitational Golf Meet.

All of the BEA golfers but one, shot over 100 for the 18-hole meet.

Jessica Skaare led the Bucs with a 91 (43-48) which was good for the third place medal.

“Jessica had a great round,” Coach Al Cue commented. “She was playing well, but had an 11 on one hole, unfortunately. If she could have cut that back to even an eight, she would have been the medalist.”

Mackenzie Lein shot a 106 (54-52) for the Bucs. Olivia Skaare had a 112 (55-57) and Morgan Dickman carded a 114 (58-56).

As a team the Bucs had a score of 423, which tied them for seventh place with New Ulm.

Jackson County Central won the 11-team meet, shooting a 379. Luverne was second at 384, Windom and Worthington tying for third at 409. Marshall was right behind with 410, and host Fairmont was sixth at 415.

USC 216, BEA 223

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls golf team lost to United South Central on Friday, May 8. The Bucs shot 223 as a team, USC cutting that by seven strokes at 216.

The Bucs and the Rebels both had four golfers in the 50s for the nine holes, but USC’s total was lower on the Riverside Town and Country Golf Club course.

Jessica Skaare and Morgan Dickman tied for low for the Bucs, both shooting 55. Samantha Hogstad carded a 56, and Olivia Skaare a 58 to round out the Buc team total.

Ali Wood led USC with a 50, and was medalist. Stefanie Herman and Kirsten Amberg both shot 55, and Erin Hotzler added a 56.

Mankato West 201, BEA 211

The Buccaneer girls golf team came close on Monday, but lost to Mankato West in a meet at the Riverside Town and Country Club.

The Bucs shot a 211 team score, but the Scarlets came in with a 201.

Jessica Skaare led BEA with a 46. Following in order were Morgan Dickman with a 54, Olivia Skaare with 55 and Mackenzie Lein with 56.

The Scarlets’ Mariah Chelsey shot a 44 for medalist honors.

BEA 425, Waseca 434

Jessica Skaare shot a 101 on Tuesday at the Riverside Town and Country Club golf course to lead the Buccaneers to a 425-434 win over the Waseca Bluejays.

The 18-hole meet was played in very windy conditions, causing some higher than usual scores.

Skaare’s score was good for medalist honors. Coming in with a 106 for the Buc’s was Mackenzie Lein. Olivia Skaare was right behind with a 107. Morgan Dickman’s 111 rounded out the scoring for BEA.

Waseca’s Sophie Tuttle shot a 104 to lead the Bluejays. Other scores were Katie Harvey – 107, Kierstin Dennis – 111, and Sammy Davis – 112.
